Opera 9 released
Standards compliance just got a further boost with the announcement of the release of Opera 9.0 by Opera Software ASA.
As with previous versions, this offers fast page rendering, layout preserving full-page zoom, a serious committment to web standards (xhtml, css, DOM…) and is available for all platforms. It also includes within its small footprint an email client and, for the first time in a browser, a BitTorrent client directly built in.

With this release Opera becomes one of the select few browsers able to pass the Acid2 test for standards compliance, joining the likes of Apple’s Safari, KDE’s Konqueror, and iCab. In so doing it is the first such browser for the Windows platform, Firefox having yet to achieve this and Internet Explorer being best not mentioned.
