Wordpress plugin: Content Extract Updated

The Content Extract plugin for Wordpress that extends control over post excerpts/summaries has been updated to improve its capabilities and fix a bug or two.

Under previous versions leading and trailing html tags were removed, and then replaced with the provided ‘before’ and ‘after’ tags, which defaulted to the open/close paragraph tags respectively. For most cases this would be fine, but where the main body of a post started with another non-paragraph tag (e.g. a heading tag), the result would be a mis-matched pairing and invalid markup in the auto-extracted excerpt. This is now fixed. If the body of your posts now starts and/or ends with an html tag, this is now detected and correctly reapplied to the generated excerpt.

Another area of problem occured in cases where the truncation was made in the middle of a list of items. The resulting excerpt would not have the required closing tags for the item/list affected, and again invalid markup would result. This again is now fixed, and the need to close items (li, dt or dd) or lists (ol, ul or dl) is tracked through the truncation process.

The new version also improves its ‘sentence ’ identification to include the closing of ordered and unordered lists, which were previously omitted.
