Internet cable repairs begin

From The Bangkok Post website.

Repairs to the earthquake damaged marine cables carrying much of the telecommunications (voice, data and internet) traffic for Thailand and the rest of southeast Asia are reported to have begun with the arrival of repair ships in Taiwanese waters.

With nine ruptures across 4 cables, each of which has to be raised, repairs are expected to take between two to three weeks. This means that international connectivity and performance for the affected countries is unlikely to be fully restored until the end of January, with speeds remaining slow, especially at times of peak activity.
