Internet cable repair completion stalled

Undersea telecommunications cables damaged by the Boxing Day earthquake that shook Taiwan are now largely fixed, but remaining work on the last will now be delayed until end February, due to bad weather, technical problems and ‘other reasons’ (from The Nation quoting Agence Presse).

The effects on southeast Asia’s internet users will however be less than felt in the first weeks following the quake since regional ISP’s have by now rerouted traffic to bypass the problem cables.

Our experiences of the past few days certainly bear this out, suggesting that internet speed is pretty much back to what passes for normality, although at times of peak load things can still become sluggish.
